Fairs, comedians, and Juneteenth celebration give visitors plenty to enjoy in Tri-Valley

June’s mild weather in Pleasanton, Calif., makes it quite the pleasant location to escape for a vacation. With highs averaging in the mid-80s, very little rain and lows in the mid-50s, this is the time of the year provides perfect weather to enjoy the small-town charm of California’s Tri-Valley.

June is also the perfect time to visit to experience the Alameda County Fair, taking place at the county fairgrounds June 16 through July 9. Open Wednesday through Sunday and July 3 from 12 to 11 p.m., as well as 12 to 8 p.m. July 4, the county fair has something for everyone: concerts, food, stunt shows, horse racing, carnival rides, festivals, animal exhibits and more are all part of the experience.

Performers in the concert series include Quiet Riot, Gin Blossoms, Night Ranger and Jesse McCartney, and the stunt shows include very different themes. Freestyle motocross riders show off their dirt bike skills, while a medieval show featuring jousting, swordplay and hand-to-hand fighting offers a trip back in time. Celebrate Black history on June 17 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with the Juneteenth Celebration in Partnership with Tri-Valley for Black Lives at Livermore’s Bankhead Plaza. The event celebrates the end of American slavery, which took place in 1865, two years after the practice was officially abolished in Confederate states. The free celebration, open to the public, will include musical performances and art to honor the occasion.

Celebrate Father’s Day on June 18 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. with the Jon Snyder Memorial Father’s Day Car Show at the Blackhawk Museum in Danville. Enthusiasts show off their modern and classic performance cars for attendees to admire at this annual event. Register your car or just show up and take in the sights while enjoying Adobe Road wine and live music.

If you’re looking for some classic onstage entertainment, SPARC Theater’s Shakespeare in the Vineyard has you covered. At 7:30 p.m. Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from June 23 until July 9, enjoy Lauren Gunderson’s “Silent Sky” outdoors in Livermore’s serene Darcie Kent Vineyards.

Taking place in the 19th century, the play centers around real-life astronomer Henrietta Leavitt in a time when women scientists faced an uphill battle to be taken seriously. Pick your show date and enjoy the performance.
