November in Pleasanton: Hometown Traditions, Wine Country & Holiday Magic

Veteran tributes continue Veterans Day, Wednesday, Nov. 11, when Livermore hosts its annual Veterans Day and Armistice Day Remembrance at its Veterans Memorial Building, 522 S. L St., Livermore. The observance begins at 10:45 a.m. and includes Bells of Peace at 11 a.m., military displays, and a Quilt of Valor presentation honoring local veterans. Las Positas College continues the recognition on Nov. 18 with a Veterans Day event hosted by its Veterans First Program.

For guests of The Rose Hotel, the Pleasanton parade is especially convenient, with the procession passing right along Main Street, just steps from our front door.

Celebrating Talent, Culture, and Community

Beyond the patriotic tributes, November offers plenty of opportunities to celebrate the creativity and cultural traditions that make the Tri-Valley such a vibrant place to visit.

The Pleasanton Youth Theater Company kicks off the month with School of Rock Young Actors Edition, bringing the hit musical to the Firehouse Arts Center for performances Nov. 6-8 and 13-15. The talented young performers & energetic music tell a heartwarming story about discovering your potential.

On Nov. 7, the Pleasanton Senior Center hosts a Día de los Muertos celebration from 1-3 p.m., to honor loved ones who have passed. The free gathering is a place to share a meaningful cultural experience while connecting with others in our community.

Autumn Adventures Await
November's mild autumn weather is a great time to get outside and explore the Tri-Valley.

On Friday, Nov. 13, Dublin's Friday Night Market at St. Pat's Row offers visitors an evening of artisan shopping, food trucks, and entertainment from 5-9 p.m. It's a great place to discover local makers, sample delicious food, and enjoy the relaxed neighborhood atmosphere.

The following weekend, Nov. 14-15, the Alameda County Fairgrounds in Pleasanton will be bustling with automotive enthusiasts for the Goodguys 36th Fuel Curve Autumn Get-Together.

A longtime favorite among classic car lovers, the event brings in an impressive collection of hot rods, custom vehicles, and vintage automobiles. Along with the cars, visitors can explore vendor exhibits, enjoy entertainment, and share their appreciation for automotive craftsmanship. It's a fun weekend for dedicated collectors and our rooms are often fully booked (as well as our garage, which gets filled with an eclectic collection of vehicles headed to the show).

The fairgrounds welcome another popular event Nov. 20-21, when The Great Junk Hunt returns with vintage treasures, antiques, repurposed furnishings, handmade goods, and distinctive home décor.

It’s a perfect opportunity to do a little gift shopping for a unique and nostalgic gift. The market is also a great excuse to spend an afternoon browsing before heading downtown for dinner.

And speaking of shopping, downtown Pleasanton's independently owned boutiques and specialty shops are always worth exploring. November is an ideal time to begin your holiday shopping at a leisurely pace, discovering thoughtful gifts while supporting the small local businesses that give Main Street its distinctive personality.

Artful Inspirations

The Tri-Valley's thriving arts scene offers a particularly rich selection of performances this November, with something to appeal to nearly every musical taste.

At Livermore's Bankhead Theater, the Davin-Levin Duo takes the stage Nov. 14 for an evening of chamber music featuring harp and guitar. A few days later, on Nov. 18, the theater hosts Fenestra & Page Mill: 50 Years!, a special program celebrating the winemaking heritage of two longtime Livermore Valley wineries and serving as a fundraiser to benefit Tri Valley Haven.

History enthusiasts can travel back nearly 2,000 years on Nov. 19 with National Geographic Live: The Ghosts of Pompeii. Featuring Caitie Barrett, the presentation explores the ancient Roman city whose remarkable preservation continues to reveal fascinating details about everyday life before the eruption of Mount Vesuvius.

Music takes center stage as the month continues. Jazz vocalist Gabrielle Cavassa performs at the Bankhead on Nov. 20, followed by Sounds of Laurel Canyon: A Back to the Garden Story Concert on Nov. 21. The latter celebrates the remarkable music and cultural influence of Southern California's legendary Laurel Canyon scene, recalling an era that helped shape generations of popular music.

Sunday, Nov. 22, offers two very different but equally appealing musical experiences. The internationally acclaimed Canadian Brass performs at the Bankhead Theater, bringing its renowned musicianship and entertaining style to the Tri-Valley. Meanwhile, the Firehouse Arts Center in downtown Pleasanton presents A Song for You: The Music of Karen Carpenter at Christmas, a nostalgic afternoon celebrating beloved melodies and the approaching holiday season.

As Thanksgiving weekend arrives, the music becomes even more festive. Jeff Bordes brings the sounds of New Orleans to the Bankhead Theater on Nov. 28 with A New Orleans Christmas, combining musical energy with holiday spirit.

The following afternoon, Nov. 29, the Pacific Chamber Orchestra presents Handel's Messiah, a beautiful musical performance to close out November and welcome December.

Savor the Season & Sip

Of course, no autumn visit to the Tri-Valley would be complete without spending some time in nearby Livermore Valley Wine Country.

November visitors to wine country can explore the vineyards against a backdrop of fall colors. Tasting rooms, historic wineries, and a relaxed pace is what brings couples, groups of friends, and anyone who appreciates good wine to visit.

The season brings several special opportunities to experience local winemaking traditions. Wente Family Vineyards offers its Cresta Blanca Cave Tour & Tasting on Nov. 1 and 15, giving guests an opportunity to discover the winery's history and enjoy its wines in a distinctive setting.

On Nov. 12, McGrail Vineyards hosts Gather, Gobble, Cheers!, pairing wine with artisan cheeses for an experience inspired by the flavors of the season.

Later in the month, Murrieta's Well welcomes guests for Friendsgiving Trivia Night on Nov. 20, combining wine, seasonal food, and a friendly little competition.

Even without a scheduled event, a leisurely day exploring Livermore Valley's wineries is a delightful way to experience November. After an afternoon of tasting, downtown Pleasanton's excellent restaurants provide the perfect setting to continue the evening.

Looking Ahead: The Magic of Hometown Holiday

As November draws to a close, anticipation builds for one of downtown Pleasanton's most beloved annual traditions: Hometown Holiday, returning Saturday, Dec. 5. For residents and visitors alike, this celebration captures everything that makes the holiday season in Pleasanton so special.

The festivities begin the evening before, on Friday, Dec. 4, when the Pleasanton Downtown Association hosts Magical Holiday Evening at Lions Wayside Park from 4-7p.m. Holiday music, a festive market, hot chocolate, seasonal activities, and visits with Santa and Mrs. Claus set the stage for a memorable weekend.

Then, on Saturday, Dec. 5, Main Street transforms into a festive wonderland for the annual Hometown Holiday Parade, beginning at 5 p.m. Illuminated floats, marching bands, community groups, and holiday music fill downtown with excitement as families and friends line the streets to enjoy this cherished Pleasanton tradition.

Following the parade, the celebration continues with the community tree lighting ceremony in front of the Museum on Main. Live entertainment and a special appearance by Santa add to the holiday cheer as downtown officially welcomes the Christmas season.

For guests at The Rose Hotel, it's an especially magical experience. We are right on Main Street, putting you in the heart of the celebration, surrounded by the lights, music, and festive spirit that make Hometown Holiday so memorable.
