Citizens going on the march for U.S. vets on Veterans Day

October 26, 2015

Armies march, and then they go to war. When they return home from the battlefield, we march to honor them. As the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs aptly puts it: “On Veterans Day, we celebrate the service, sacrifice and enduring achievements of almost 22 million living Americans who served our nation in uniform — at home and abroad — during times of both war and peace. On the 11th day of the 11th month, as we have in so many years past, Americans will reflect on our way of life and pay tribute to the men and women who made it all possible.” These are Americans who do jobs that most of us could never imagine doing, and becoming a G.I. in the United States military is one of those jobs — putting life and limb at risk to defend the interests and territorial integrity of the United States … (click on the headline to continue reading)

That amounts to about $500 billion spent globally on luxury travel and lodging in a single year, but who’s counting? Boston Consulting reports that spending styles among luxury consumers differs by age and whether they were born into wealth or they built their fortunes. The young and newly rich tend to buy visibly costly items that will impress their peers. By contrast, those born into wealth are more likely to … (click on the headline to continue reading)

Rental and car-sharing services are on a roll for travelers

September 07, 2015

With dramatic changes in technology and lifestyles, it will come as no surprise to many of you that changes have now come to the rental car business. Just as Uber and Lyft have forced the taxi business to rethink the quality of its vehicles and customer service, new rental options are doing the same to traditional car rental agencies such as Avis, Enterprise and Hertz. Consider a rental service name Silvercar that offers just one kind of vehicle, an Audi A4 that one might want to make a strong first impression, and simply enjoy the experience of driving a high-performance driving machine. A reservation can be made by smartphone and the Audi picked up before midnight at the airport, without the intercession of an attendant. Simple, clean, frictionless. Niche rental and car-sharing services such as … (click on the headline to continue reading)
