Winner announced in ‘turducken’ drawing

Linda Burkett from the Bay Area community of Mountain House won The Rose Hotel’s “turducken” drawing.

If you missed our Nov. 4 blog post, we invited Rosebuds readers and subscribers to submit their names to win an oven-ready turducken – a dish consisting of a de-boned chicken stuffed inside a de-boned duck, stuffed inside a de-bonded turkey. The result is a fairly solid layered poultry dish, suitable for cooking by braising, roasting, grilling, or barbecuing.

The turducken was made famous by legendary NFL football coach and TV analyst John Madden who referred to the dish during numerous Thanksgiving Day football broadcasts. (You can learn more by reading this blog post.)

After being apprised that she won the drawing, Ms. Burkett wrote: “This year we are staying home and preparing for a traditional Thanksgiving dinner…. We have invited a couple of friends and stragglers over who do not have family in the area to join us and celebrate the day.”

Burkett is a career executive assistant, but she considers her most important job to be a wife, mother and daughter to a family she is very close to.

“For me,” she continued, “Thanksgiving Day brings to mind the blessings in our lives that usually go unnoticed – a home that surrounds us with comfort and protection, delicious food for pleasure in both eating and sharing, blankets to snuggle up in, books and good entertainment to expand our minds. Most of all I am thankful for our family and friends, those treasured people who make our lives extra special.”

We congratulate Linda Burkett on winning our drawing and wish her, and all of our hotel guests and blog subscribers, a happy Thanksgiving holiday.
