Getting the hotel biz down to a science
No hotel is an island.
Regardless of how luxurious, loaded with amenities, well-appointed and outstandingly managed, any hotel is largely at the mercy of its location.
In that regard, the Rose Hotel has always had an embarrassment of riches, thanks to its Bay Area location in Pleasanton, California. There is an endless array of cultural, recreational and educational opportunities in the greater San Francisco area.
We will explore a couple of those geographic assets in this blog post, as well as future ones. In this post we focus on science, and with good reason. Science fires the imagination, and a short distance from the Rose Hotel are some of the country’s most fascinating science tours and exhibitions.
Just a few miles from the hotel is the famous Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, one of the country’s most important scientific research and national defense assets. Add to that the Chabot Space & Science Center in the wooded hills of nearby Oakland.
Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory has long been home to the world’s fastest computer, used to conduct nuclear weapons simulations. It also recently opened the multi-billion-dollar National Ignition Facility, which uses high-intensity lasers for scientific pursuits ranging from developing nuclear fusion as a clean energy source, to unlocking the origins of the universe.
The lab offers tours of its main site where visitors can learn about its state-of-the-art research programs to bolster national defense, homeland security and develop new sources of renewable energy. Tour stops sometimes include the National Ignition Facility and the National Atmospheric Release Advisory Center.
The Chabot Space & Science Center, an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution, is an educational science center whose mission is to educate people of all ages about our planet and universe. The 86,000-square-foot center contains interactive space and science exhibitions, a digital planetarium, and giant screen mega-dome shows. Chabot is also home to largest research-quality telescopes open to the public in the western U.S. Its exhibits include:
- Life as an astronaut
- A journey from our sun to the farthest reaches of the universe
- A moon odyssey
- Stargazing through the laboratories telescopes
There’s more. Learn more and prepare for your visits now by exploring the Lawrence Livermore Laboratory and Chabot websites.
Science fills us with visions of what’s possible and paves the future.
It can also make your stay at the Rose Hotel all the more satisfying.
