The Rose Hotel celebrates landmark anniversary
This month The Rose Hotel is celebrating its 10th anniversary, and we think that’s cause for reflection and celebration.
We have hosted more than 40,000 guests during the past decade, including luminaries such as Sarah Jessica Parker (star of Sex and the City), Terry Gross (host of NPR radio talk-show Fresh Air), John Glenn (former astronaut and U.S. senator), Pat Summerall (NFL broadcaster), MC Hammer (rap music entertainer), Craig Ferguson (humorist and TV talk-show host), Annika Sorenstam (Ladies Professional Golf Association star), Tony Curtis (movie and TV star), Mary Lou Retton (Olympic gymnast), John Madden (NFL coaching and broadcasting legend), Anthony Munoz (NFL Hall of Fame offensive lineman), among others.
To commemorate our 10th anniversary, each arriving guest is being given a certificate redeemable at the lobby bar for a complementary glass of champagne.
We couldn’t be more grateful for the success we have experience during the past 10 years. We have been blessed with a vibrant commercial district surrounding the hotel, a mostly strong economy, a balanced clientele of business and leisure travelers, and many repeat guests.
It is the loyalty of our guests that most inspires our all-star staff to continue providing an ever-increasing level of customer service. We continue to work harder to earn our guests continued loyalty. We have also upgraded and expanded our technological and other offerings to attract new guests while better communicating with our existing ones. Those upgrades and offerings include:
- A redesigned and optimized website
- A mobile version of the website for those accessing via smart phones
- The creation of the Rosebuds blog that you’re reading right now
- The establishment of social media accounts on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and other sites
- The implementation of a new worldwide security standard to keep your credit card data safe
- The addition of four new two bedroom-suites especially suited to families
- An expanded hotel boardroom for business meetings
- Access to personal shopping services
- The addition of a What Our Guests Are Saying page on our website to make it more convenient for guests to give us valuable feedback
There’s also the forthcoming installation of an upgraded wi-fi system that will give guests better and more secure web access.
All this activity points to the optimism we feel about the future, both because of the loyalty of our current guests, our ability to attract new guests, and the trend among travelers to favor boutique hotels – like the 34-room Rose Hotel – rather than the larger cookie-cutter hotels. This is a trend we’ve written about in this space before. The proliferation of boutique hotels and the people who want to stay in them has spread across the globe. Boutique hotels are properties that differentiate themselves from larger chain hotels by providing more intimate and luxurious environments, as well as more personalized accommodations and services.
Naturally, that type of environment requires a higher level of customer service and attention to detail. The Rose Hotel has achieved this, in part, by retaining its key people so the consistency of service and the hotel’s culture does not suffer uneven performances.
Indeed, the hotel’s leadership is so committed to management retention, owner Mike Madden has presented six members of The Rose Hotel team – General Manger Phylis Grisham, Assistant General Manager Rebecca Gonzales, Sales Manager Tom Walker, Executive Housekeeper Grace Mora, Assistant Executive Housekeeper Maria Labra, and Houseman Carlos Fontanilla – with a Plankowners Award. (Plankowner is a term used by the U.S. Navy, and refers to a crew member who was aboard when the ship was being built and commissioned, and therefore has bragging rights to the “ownership” of one of the planks in the main deck.)
The Rose Hotel opened under the ownership of the Madden family at its present location on Dec. 16, 2001.
It has been a good run, one that will not end anytime soon if Rose Hotel ownership, management and guests have anything to say about it.
Thank you to all for making this anniversary possible and special.
