The fleet of foot and wheel will be padding and pedaling their way through downtown Pleasanton this Sunday, Aug. 7, as competing cyclists and runners race through the streets surrounding The Rose Hotel.
This first-time event is called the Fast & Furious Pleasanton, and it will bring together the worlds of cycling and running in one place to compete for more than $10,000 in cash prizes. At the same time the event highlights the downtown experience of Pleasanton, Calif.
Sponsored by grocery giant Safeway Inc., the Fast & Furious offers competitors and spectators a plethora of shopping and dining experiences.
And, of course, it also offers a boutique lodging experience in the form of The Rose Hotel. Indeed, some of the event’s runners and cyclists have booked rooms at The Rose. Our lobby bar will be open to all competitors, event spectators and the general public.
The Fast & Furious is about more than racing. It is also a wellness and lifestyle expo featuring local and regional health-care providers, lifestyle companies and specialty product manufacturers.
The festivities will cover a full day and are designed to appeal to serious athletes, weekend warriors and families. The day will begin with a 5k run/walk that will be tailored to those looking for a flat, fast 5k course, but will also appeal to the casual runner/walker or family looking for a great way to spend a summer morning in downtown Pleasanton. The 5k will be followed by a Fast & Furious kids’ race for the younger ones. Each child will receive a finisher’s medal.
Following the kids’ race is the much-anticipated “Mile of Truth,” a fast, all-out, one-mile dash for cash with the overall male and female (open, masters and juniors) winners taking home cash and prizes.
Immediately after the Mile of Truth, spectators will be treated to an afternoon and evening of bike racing. Spectators and competitors can view the cycling action while at the same time partaking in the downtown dinning and shopping opportunities.
The evening will conclude with an all-out, under the lights, high-octane professional race with the winner taking home the inaugural Fast and Furious championship title.
We hope you have a chance to participate.
