St. Paddy’s Day luck for the Irish – and Rose Hotel visitors

March 07, 2012 | (0) Comments

The Irish like their beer green. At least on March 17 they do.

We plan to oblige that and several other Irish predilections this coming St. Patrick’s Day, which conveniently falls on a Saturday. All play and no work for the revelers.

St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland

Might we interest you in a Black & Tan (one part Guinness Stout, one part Bass Pale Ale)? Perhaps a green beer, an Irish coffee, or a Bailey’s? It’s all available at our lobby bar this weekend, along with party favors and a prize for those wearing green.

Make yourself at home with The Rose Hotel Irish Special, a Deluxe King Room at a value price of just $199 plus tax. You’ll feel like Irish royalty as soon as you hit the mirrored entryway, let alone the other luxuries we’ve detailed on this page.

Stake your claim now by calling The Rose Hotel at 800-843-9540 and ask for the Irish Special.

There’s plenty to do off property as well. Our neighboring town of Dublin, Calif. – the largest (population 44,600) of just nine U.S. cities that share the name of Ireland’s capital city – is staging its annual St. Patrick’s Day Celebration on Saturday and Sunday, March 17-18. On tap are a:

  • Pancake breakfast
  • St. Patrick’s Day Parade
  • Green & White Gala
  • Shamrock 5K Fun Run & Walk

It’s an authentic Irish experience, and attendance and parking are both free of charge.

There will be plenty of music, food and drink, as well there should be, given that St. Patrick’s Day is a day of feasting to honor the anniversary of the saint’s death in the fifth century. St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, is one of Christianity’s most widely known figures.

The Irish have observed this day as a religious holiday for more than 1,000 years. No wonder the holiday is observed so fervently in the United States when you consider that it is home to about 120 million people of Irish descent.

The first St. Patrick’s Day parade took place in the United States on March 17, 1762 when Irish soldiers serving in the English military marched through New York City. Today, more than 100 St. Patrick’s Day parades are held across the country, with New York and Boston sporting the largest parades. More than 150,000 people take part in the New York parade alone, which marches up 5th Avenue.

Our local celebrations will be a bit more modest but just as much fun. Call 800-843-9540 and join us for the wearing of the green.

The smorgasbord outside our door

Travel can build quite an appetite. Our continental breakfast of fresh fruit, breads, pastries, and Peet’s gourmet coffee and premium teas is very well reviewed by our guests. But man and woman cannot live on continental breakfast alone. That’s why our Main Street location in Pleasanton, Calif., has proved such as appetizing feature for our guests. Within walking distance is a veritable smorgasbord of excellent dining opportunities for every meal of the day. They include…

Expanding our social media campaign with Google+

February 24, 2012 | (0) Comments

We launched our social media campaign in June 2010 and have been expanding it ever since. And we just took another significant step deeper into the ever-expanding contours of cyberspace with the establishment of our Google+ business page. Google+ is the internet’s latest large-scale social network. Why has The Rose Hotel jumped on board? Google is, far and away, the No. 1 search engine. That means anything we do on Google+ or the company’s other services will be rapidly indexed on the search engine, helping to boost our search rankings. There’s another perhaps more important reason. It is…

Who isn’t interested in food? It’s a matter of survival. It’s a form of recreation and social bonding. And, for some people, it’s a calling. That’s the case with Robert Bleifer, who has become a regular guest at The Rose Hotel. You might not have heard of Robert Bleifer until now, but you’ve almost certainly heard of his employer, The Food Network. In this profile of Mr. Bleifer we will introduce you to a few of his food and beverage favorites that you might find informative for your next trip to the kitchen or dining establishment…

Anatomy of a boutique hotel room

February 09, 2012 | (0) Comments

Traveling – whether for leisure or for business – can be a disconcerting affair. Then comes the hotel room. Is what “you find your home away from home”? Or is it a monochrome box? This is the world of the conventional mass-market hotel. The big chains and their cookie-cutter ethos leave one feeling like yet another cog in a human assembly line. It is the home-away-from-home ethos that drives us at The Rose Hotel. That is the yardstick by which we measure the success of our efforts. But exactly what are the anatomical parts that comprise a truly great hotel room? They are…
